The Lib Dem MP for Torbay says they are “furious” and has accused Royal Mail of “betraying their customers” after the company confirmed they had returned a profit for the first time in three years, despite announcing that they are cutting key services.

Last month, Royal Mail announced plans to cut back their services by only delivering second-class letters on every other weekday and not on Saturdays.

The Liberal Democrats have also previously criticised Ofcom for letting Royal Mail off the hook by allowing them to abandon second class deliveries.

Steve, the Liberal Democrat MP for Torbay, says they are “furious” with Royal Mail for cutting such important deliveries despite now being in profit, and has vowed to keep fighting to improve postal services in the area.

Steve said: “Slow post is a real issue for my constituents and I am furious with Royal Mail for cutting back their crucial second-class post service, despite being in profit.

“It’s a kick in the teeth for local communities, and for hard-working posties doing a great job despite having to work for a leadership that is failing them.

“Simply put, Royal Mail are betraying their customers and it is completely unacceptable. I will continue to fight for residents in my constituency who deserve punctual, regular deliveries.”
