Bench

A new, fairer policy for memorial benches

Conservative-run Torbay Council have imposed extortionate charges for memorial benches to commemorate family, friends and community champions who have sadly passed away. Friends and family of Holly Bedford, a Palinmoor Ladies FC player who passed away at age 33, have criticised the Council for charging £8000 to install and maintain a commemorative bench.

The Council currently charges £8000 for the installation, repair and maintenance of a commemorative bench for 25 years in zone 2 locations and £12,000 in zone 1 locations (more popular tourist destinations). This is compared to Westminster City Council which charges £1,625 for 10 years in prime London locations.

Support our petition to ask Torbay Council for a new fairer policy so that Torbay’s regeneration is not built off the backs of grieving families.
