SEND petition - Torbay Liberal Democrats

I am calling on the Government and Torbay Council to reduce waiting times for identifying, assessing and meeting children’s needs. All children should have an educational provision.

This means faster and clearer EHCP processes, shorter waiting lists for ASD, ADHD, SALT and OT, and earlier identification in mainstream schools.

Over 140 constituents have come to me for help in mediating with Children’s Services, and I have heard of delays of more than six months for parents before hearing from a named SEND caseworker. Unfortunately, I have met with an unprecedented refusal to engage from the Conservative-run Council.

I have raised this with the Government in Parliament, and the Leader of the House stated that it was ‘outrageous’ from the Council. I am now calling on the Government to press Torbay Council to engage with me and my team, and to help reduce waiting times in Torbay.
