Torbay’s Liberal Democrat MP, Steve Darling, has slammed the regulator Ofcom for “letting Royal Mail off the hook” after they announced last week that they would allow the company to abandon second-class deliveries on a Saturday and cut them back throughout the week.

Steve Darling MP said that the decision would hurt people in Torbay who were already having to put up with unacceptable delays and make going about their lives harder. They called on the regulator to think again and hold the service accountable for failing to deliver post on time.

Liberal Democrat MP for Torbay, Steve Darling said:

“This decision will leave countless people in the lurch here in Torbay. My inbox is full of people who are sick to the back teeth of delays to their post and now Ofcom is letting Royal Mail off the hook.

“Local posties do a fantastic job even in the face of leadership that is failing them but instead of giving those at the top a free pass the regulator should step in and hold those that run it properly accountable. This approach does nothing but make these delays seem acceptable and that everyone fed up with them should just grin and bear it.

“That is not right and I will not stop fighting until this service is brought up to the standard that people here in Torbay expect and deserve.”
