Torbay Liberal Democrats are looking for a dynamic Campaign Organiser to be a key part of the Campaign Team driving our General Election campaign in the Torbay parliamentary seat.

Torbay returned a Liberal Democrat MP from 1997 to 2015. The Liberal Democrats are the strong second party in Torbay with Labour and the Greens offering little opposition.

We are aiming to strongly contest the Westminster seat – the current canvassing results are looking very promising and we wish to strengthen our campaign team with a paid, part time Campaign Organiser who will be the core support for the team.  It’s a great opportunity to make a difference at an exciting time for Torbay.

If you have any questions feel free to email Torbay Liberal Democrats at info@torbaylibdems.org.uk or by calling Pam Bagnall, Chair, on 07915 166889.

Local Party Organiser (Torbay) – Part Time

Job Description and Specification:

It is desirable that the applicant be a current active volunteer, officer or employee of the Liberal Democrats to ensure knowledge of policy and systems including Connect, Lighthouse and Fleet. It would also be an advantage if you hold a clean driving licence and have access to a car. Being able to move around the constituency to canvass and deliver literature to volunteers is a key part of the job.

Key Responsibilities:

Project manage the campaign

You'll make sure our Campaign Plan in Torbay is delivered on-time and in-budget, working closely with the rest of the campaign team and activists. This includes the production of literature – both constituency wide and tailored mailings, creating canvassing lists based on appropriate criteria, coordinating activity and engaging volunteers.

Get the message out

You'll help plan and manage a rigorous schedule of campaign activity to get the message out to voters across the Torbay constituency. This will involve organising doorstep canvassing, leaflet delivery, mass telephoning to voters and more.

Power-up our team of activists

You'll organise training to arm our volunteers with the skills they need to make an impact when meeting voters on the doorsteps. You'll work with the rest of the campaign team to recruit talented and committed new activists.

Provide data-driven campaign advice

Drawing on insights from local surveys, opinion polling and your political knowledge you’ll inject your advice into the campaign to help make the decisions we need to win.

Key things we're after from you (person specification):

You know how to get things done

You’re hot on deadlines, making sure team members know what tasks they need to do, and at keeping track of a budget. You’ve got experience managing a project with lots of strands. You are good at setting priorities and sticking to them.

You can fire up passionate volunteers

You've got the enthusiasm and empathy to motivate our team of activists. You might have experience recruiting, managing or training volunteers.

You can multitask with ease

You're organised enough to manage lots of simultaneous demands from volunteers, the rest of the campaign team and the candidate without losing your cool or losing sight of your goals.

You care enough to get stuck right in

You're invested in our mission to oust the Conservatives and drive positive change locally and nationally. You’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the job done.

Experience for you:

• Networking: Meet and learn from ambitious campaigners from across the country, including MPs and fellow campaign staffers.

• Have a real say: Your voice will have a huge bearing on the shape of the campaign.

• Change lives: Make a difference to Torbay and to our country's future directly through your work.

We will be reviewing applications as they come in and reserve the right to appoint prior to the closing date.

We will not be able to employ you if you are not eligible to work in the UK. We will not be able to obtain a work permit on your behalf.

Applicants are encouraged to inform us if any reasonable adjustments are needed to be made during any part of the recruitment process.

We will notify applicants if their application has been unsuccessful when the job has been filled.

How to apply:

Please write explaining why you wish to be considered for the post and address key points from the job description and person specification. Please also enclose a short Curriculum Vitae.  Your application should be emailed to the Chair of the Local Party, Pam Bagnall at info@torbaylibdems.org.uk
