Help Cat Johns and the Lib Dems save our steam railway!
'Being born and bred in Paignton, I know how much our steam railway means to our community. It’s a popular tourist attraction and part of our heritage.
'As a community campaigner in Paignton, I know Torbay needs better transport links. I am delighted that the local Lib Dems are set to invest £150,000 in local bus routes this year, however the ambitions of local Conservatives to open a mainline rail link to Churston, which would put our steam railway under threat, is reckless.
'The Dartmouth steam railway is a significant attraction in Torbay valued both by visitors and residents alike. The steam railway fear that it will only take a marginal number of passengers to switch from the heritage trains to mainline trains for their financial model to be no longer viable.
'At a time of significant economic uncertainty, now is not the time to create additional stress to an attraction in Paignton when they will be fighting for survival in a post pandemic world.
'Torbay Tories need to think again.'

I/We the undersigned share the concerns of the Dartmouth Steam Railway that its future would be at risk were mainline trains allowed to use the line between Goodrington and Churston and I/we call upon the Secretary of State for Transport, to reject any Restoring your Railway, or other fund, bid that seeks to do this.
