Lib Dems condemn changes to "Crisis Support Scheme"

Liberal Democrats on Torbay Council have condemned the decision to end core funding for Torbay Council's Crisis Support Scheme.  Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Torbay Council Steve Darling said, “This scheme helps those most in need in our community with small grants when they are in a crisis.  We were always critical that the bar had been set too high for those needing help. The decision to stop this being treated as core funding sends a clear signal out that the days of this scheme are numbered.“
The Watcome ward councillor, whose ward had the highest levels of child poverty in the Bay, went on to say, “Myself and fellow Liberal Democrats plan to monitor the changes to this scheme and the impact on those who often lead chaotic  lives due to such issues as mental health problems, addiction or relationship breakdown. Torbay has increasing levels of deprivation and so it is bizarre that the council are choking off this support at a time of increasing need”
