Air show question denied
Liberal Democrats on Torbay Council are furious that a question which was set to be tabled on 21 July 2016 about the loss making Torbay Air Show has been refused by the Conservative-controlled council.
Liberal Democrat councillor for Tormohun, Mandy Darling , said: “Cllr Dave Morris is quickly developing the reputation as the invisible councillor on Torbay Council, as he failed to show for a council watch dog meeting last week about the screen on the Green and his Conservative colleague, Councillor Hill, as Chairman of the Council has disallowed this question. I have now had sight of the report into the Air Show and it is clear to me that Councillor Morris’s failure to promote the air show adequately may have been a major cause of its financial downfall. Whilst this event was a positive experience for the Bay, it is a real shame that the lack of promotion let it down.”
The email refusing the question is a follows.
Dear Cllr Darling,
As you are aware the deadline for the submission of questions for consideration at the Council meeting on 21 July has passed. Today, I have had the opportunity to complete the clearance process with Steve Parrock. You submitted the following question to Councillor Morris:
If the Torbay Air Show in 2016 has proven to make a loss, are you willing, as the promoter of the event, to repay any fees that you, or a company you have an interest in, may have received.
The question has been refused by Steve in consultation with the Chairman of the Council in accordance with Council Standing Order A13.3(iii), the question is ‘otherwise objectionable’ as the question relates to his personal business and not to do with Councillor Morris’ capacity as a Councillor.
