20 is plenty

Liberal Democrat campaigners are challenging the Conservative council to introduce a new 20mph speed limit in residential areas around Torbay.
Chris Carter, a Local Lib Dem councillor, said “There are many residential streets in Torbay being used as ‘rat-runs’ for commuters and people looking to take short cuts. The increase in traffic and the speed at which it is moving poses a threat to children playing in the street, older people crossing and even pets are at risk. Torbay should be taking a lead in providing safer streets for all.”
Please help by signing our petition below.

I, the undersigned call upon Torbay Council council to introduce a new 20mph speed limit in residential areas around Torbay:

My own road is a’rat run’ where non responsible drivers speed up & down & cats have been killed. This has to stop!

Fisher Street. Paignton. This road is a rat run from Dartmouth Rd to Totnes Rd, avoiding the town centre. We have Tower House scholl in this road, also chlidren going to and from Curledge St, Hayes Rd and Paignton community college.

I fully endorse this proposal, and would start with the Meadfoot Beach/Ilsham Road/Wellswood area where there are frequent risks to children and dogs running across the roads.

South Hams /Devon have been doing this for years. There is no need for massive traffic calming schemes

We heartily agree that 20 is plenty. We have a sign outside the house which says “20 Zone”. People tear through Conway Rd to beat the one-way system, having a blind corner up the road from us has resulted in many near misses.
